Debates have begun on how many games the A's have in current win streak

OAKLAND — Okay, seriously, how long is the A's current winning streak?

Is it nine games? Six games? 10 games? No one seems to agree.

Of course, all of the confusion stems from Oakland's suspended game in Detroit last Sunday. The A's led the Tigers 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning before the game was delayed, and ultimately suspended, due to rain. It won't be finished until Sept 6.

The A's had won the first three games of that series in Detroit. They have won six consecutive games since then. So it would appear they have won nine games in a row. Unfortunately, it's not that simple.

When Oakland and Detroit complete their suspended game in September, the result will still count for the original date of May 19. If the A's hold on to their 5-3 lead and win, it would mean their current winning streak is 10 games. However, if they end up losing, the streak would be reduced to six in a row.

For now, it's fair to say the A's have won nine straight games and are unbeaten in their last 10. As some have joked, it would be pretty dramatic if the A's extend the winning streak to 19 games and then have to play the waiting game:

Picture it. It's September 6. The A's have lost a few games in a row. They hold on to beat Detroit, 5-3, and somehow celebrate their 20th straight win.

Anyway, since no one will officially know the length of the winning streak until September, perhaps it's most accurate to say the A's have won 9 2/3 games in a row.
