SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants mixed up their bench composition Friday morning, sending outfielder Mac Williamson back to Triple-A and purchasing the contract of infielder Conor Gillaspie.
The Giants had been playing with just one backup infielder since Ehire Adrianza suffered a fractured foot last Wednesday. Manager Bruce Bochy indicated over the weekend that it was a short-term situation, with Williamson called up to provide bench power while the team faced a string of lefties. Adrianza, who is expected to miss a couple months, was put on the 60-day disabled list to clear a roster spot.

Gillaspie, a 2008 Giants draft pick, returned to the organization this spring after a stint with the Chicago White Sox. The 28-year-old was hitting .314 with four extra-base hits and four RBI for Sacramento. He can back up Matt Duffy at third, Brandon Belt at first, and provide a left-handed bat off the bench.
Williamson was 0-for-3 as a pinch-hitter in this cameo, and Bochy said it was unlikely he would be up for long since the Giants want the powerful young prospect to get four at-bats every day.
Gillaspie will be in San Francisco for the start of a three-game series with the Marlins.
