Evans faces stiff competition for the Angels' job, though, as he's one of nine reported candidates for the position.
According to Fletcher, the other eight candidates are:
- Michael Hill -- Former Miami Marlins president of baseball operations
- Dan Jennings -- Washington Nationals special assistant
- Jason McLeod -- Chicago Cubs vice president in charge of player personnel
- Justin Hollander -- Seattle Mariners assistant general manager
- Billy Owens -- A’s assistant general manager
- Logan White -- San Diego Padres special assistant
- Jared Porter -- Arizona Diamondbacks assistant general manager
- Amiel Sawdaye -- Arizona Diamondbacks assistant general manager
The Giants dismissed Evans late in the 2018 season after he spent four years as the general manager, eventually replacing him with Farhan Zaidi, the current president of baseball operations.

While Evans was assistant GM for the Giants during their World Series title runs in 2010, '12 and '14, his time as the general manager wasn't as successful. He was responsible for the free-agent signings of Mark Melancon, Johnny Cueto, Jeff Samardzija and Denard Span, which didn't pan out the way Evans or the team had hoped.
The Angels are in need of a new general manager after Billy Eppler was fired on Sept. 27 after five seasons.

If Evans gets the job, he would take over a team that features Trout, a three-time AL MVP, and Anthony Rendon, who was one of the biggest offseason signings last winter. The Angels also have dynamic two-way player Shohei Ohtani and former MVP Albert Pujols, who is entering the final year of his contract.
Evans' primary job would be to beef up the pitching staff and add players around Trout and Rendon in order to help end the Angels' six-year playoff drought.
