Dubs' 6-9 record tied for third worst by defending champion

The Warriors were riding high coming into the 2022-23 NBA season, four months removed from winning their fourth championship in eight seasons.

Exactly one month into the season, the good times are over.

With their 130-119 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night at Footprint Center, the Warriors now have started the season 6-9, including an unimaginable 0-8 record on the road.

Per SportsRadar, the Warriors' record is tied for the third worst 15-game start by a defending NBA champion:

1998-99 -- Chicago Bulls -- 4-11 -- .267 winning percentage
1969-70 -- Boston Celtics -- 4-11 -- .267 winning percentage
2002-03 -- Los Angeles Lakers-- 5-10 -- .333 winning percentage
2022-23 -- Golden State Warriors -- 6-9 -- .400 winning percentage
2006-07 -- Miami Heat -- 6-9 -- .400 winning percentage
1956-57 -- Philadelphia Warriors -- 6-9 -- .400 winning percentage
1948-49 -- Baltimore Bullets -- 6-9 -- .400 winning percentage

For perspective, the Warriors began last season 13-2.

The Warriors have been searching for answers for weeks. The defense is non-existent. Steph Curry is carrying the load offensively. Andrew Wiggins is carrying his weight, but no one else is. Klay Thompson hasn't found his shot. Jordan Poole has been inconsistent off the bench. Draymond Green has been productive but isn't making a huge impact. The youngsters -- James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody -- aren't contributing at the rate that was expected of them coming into the season.

Aside from Curry's scorching start to the season -- he dropped in 50 points in the loss to the Suns -- not much is going right for the Warriors, and there's another ominous stat that might indicate this season won't end with another championship parade down Market Street in San Francisco.

Per Warriors Muse, an offshoot of StatMuse, in each of Golden State's six NBA Finals appearances during Steve Kerr's tenure, they have been the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference on Dec. 26 of each year.

The Warriors currently are the No. 12 seed in the West, four-and-a-half games behind the Suns for the top seed.

This wasn't the start to the season the Warriors or anyone envisioned for them with their top six players returning. The good news is that there is plenty of time for them to turn things around. But it's not going to be an easy task considering the issues the current roster presents.
