Dubs' record 24 3-pointers more than some legends' careers

The Warriors made more 3-pointers (24) in Thursday's win over the Oklahoma City Thunder than all but two other occasions in franchise history, providing yet another reminder of how different the NBA's present is from its not-so-distant past.

Golden State knocked down at least as many triples in the victory than the following Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famers did in their entire NBA careers.

  • Bernard King (23)
  • Alonzo Mourning (22)
  • Tiny Archibald (19)
  • Patrick Ewing (19)
  • Alex English (18)
  • Pete Maravich (10)
  • Adrian Dantley (seven)
  • Yao Ming (two)
  • Shaquille O'Neal (one)
  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (one)

The Warriors -- and the rest of the NBA -- are playing a much different game than their legendary predecessors, to many of whom the 3-pointer was nothing more than a curiosity. Steph Curry ushered this new era, so of course Curry led Golden State with 11 made 3-pointers (on 16 attempts) Wednesday night.

The list of legends who made fewer 3-pointers in their careers than the Warriors did Wednesday is filled with centers and slashing wings, and both archetypes are expected to launch from distance these days.

Andrew Wiggins, who fits the former billing, attempted three 3-pointers Wednesday. Draymond Green, the Warriors' primary small-ball center in James Wiseman's absence, took two.

The Warriors' 24 made 3-pointers Wednesday were their most since matching that total on Jan. 16, 2019. Between then and Wednesday, the NBA has had 24 separate instances of teams making at least 24 3-pointers in a single game.

It's a different game these days, thanks in no small part to the Warriors. They proved Wednesday they're still capable of showing why.
