Ja denies rivalry with Warriors, who have ‘target' on back

Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies really don't want to classify their relationship with the Warriors as a rivalry.

On Wednesday, the Grizzlies star shared his thoughts with ESPN's Malika Andrews on "NBA Today" on the supposed rivalry between Memphis and the Warriors.

"I honestly wouldn't say it's a rivalry, but I feel like everybody in the league is pretty much after Golden State," Morant told Andrews.

Morant said that it's not just the success that teams are after; but it's also how the Warriors have conducted themselves during their dynasty.

"Just the foundation and the legacy they've built over there," Morant continued. "Winning championships, the players they've got over there, I feel like they've got a target on their back."

Morant and the Grizzlies know that all roads to the Larry O'Brien trophy pass through Golden State, especially in the West.

"For us, they're in the same conference as us, and obviously, we got to go through them to get to a championship. That's what we're trying to do," Morant concluded.

Although Morant claims that the Grizzlies don't have a rivalry with the Warriors, the 23-year-old insists that Memphis would have beaten Golden State and won the 2022 NBA championship, had he been fully healthy.

Furthermore, the Grizzlies have a quote from Draymond Green plastered in their weight room to use as motivation to beat the Warriors.

Despite whatever is said and shared on social media, the teams have mutual respect for one another, as evidenced by Morant wishing Steph Curry and the Warriors well after Golden State eliminated the Grizzlies from the 2022 NBA Playoffs.

The two teams will face off on Christmas in what is sure to be a fireworks-filled game
