Kerr praises Wiggins by taking sarcastic dig at doubters

With Draymond Green focusing on the defensive end and Steph Curry lighting it up, Andrew Wiggins provided a spark on both ends of the floor to help the Warriors stay close in their 103-100 play-in tournament loss to L.A.

Andrew Wiggins has transformed his career with the Warriors.

The No. 1 overall pick from the 2014 draft didn't live up to expectations with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and developed a bad reputation in many corners of the NBA.

But the narrative surrounding Wiggins has changed, which is a result of him playing the best all-around basketball of his career.

"Well I don't know if you guys know this, but people actually change and evolve," Steve Kerr said sarcastically Thursday on KNBR's "Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks" show. "Guys get better. They put the work in, they evolve, they learn. Wiggs is getting better.

"He's a fantastic defender, he's been aggressive offensively, this has been his most efficient season. The work pays off."

Wiggins recorded 21 points (10-for-18 from the field), three rebounds, two assists and one block in the Warriors' loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.

The 26-year-old also played terrific defense.

Wiggins averaged 18.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.0 blocks and 0.9 steals this season, while posting career highs from the field (47.7 percent) and beyond the arc (38 percent).

Additionally, he would have started all 72 games if the Warriors didn't rest him vs. the New Orleans Pelicans ahead of their regular-season finale against the Memphis Grizzlies.

"When you got a guy who's got a great commitment and spirit and dedication to his teammates, good things are gonna happen," Kerr said.
