NBA rumors: Carmelo Anthony, Rockets discussing his role with team

The Warriors might not get a glimpse of the Houston Rockets' Carmelo Anthony Era after all.

Anthony and the Rockets are having "ongoing" talks about his role with the team, and if that can last the rest of the season, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday night. Anthony did not play Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs because of an illness.

The Rockets revamped their roster after losing to the Warriors in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals last spring. Versatile defenders Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute left in free agency, and Anthony signed with the Rockets for the veteran's minimum after being traded from the Thunder to the Hawks, then released.

Houston has a problem through 11 games, sitting just 4-7. Star guards James Harden and Chris Paul have been injured, but the Rockets are in the bottom half of the NBA in offensive and defensive rating. Through the first 10 games of Anthony's Rockets tenure, Houston was much better with him off the court than him on it.

The Warriors will tip off against the Rockets on Thursday in Houston. Whether or not Carmelo Anthony suits up is a very real question.
