Report: Warriors unlikely to draft Edwards for two reasons

If the Warriors keep the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and Anthony Edwards still is on the board when they are on the clock, will Golden State take him?

It sounds like the answer is "no" based on a a new piece of intel.

"Teams are worried about Edwards' drive and enthusiasm for winning, and according to a source, the Golden State Warriors aren't a likely landing spot due to these concerns," Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman writes. "Scouts and executives have mentioned that his teams haven't won at any level, and that he even forgets plays and actions."

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals during his freshman year at the University of Georgia.

But he shot 40.2 percent overall and 29.4 percent from 3-point territory, and the Bulldogs went 5-13 in conference games.

"The more we ask around about Edwards, the more we hear concern about his professionalism and ability to impact winning, even if his scoring production carries over," Wasserman added.

The Warriors definitely are in win-now mode. So if in fact the front office holds these concerns about Edwards, then it's very safe to assume the Atlanta native will not be wearing a Warriors uniform next season.

But don't forget what Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle reported in early August.

"Golden State believes, per a league source, that Edwards is one of the few players available in this draft who can contribute immediately and develop into a face of the franchise within the next few seasons," he wrote.

Perhaps some in the organization still feel that way, or maybe those who did have changed their mind. The draft evaluation period always is fluid, and this year's process has been longer than ever.

If the Warriors were hoping to get a glimpse of Edwards in the upcoming NBA combine, they must have been disappointed when they learned about his status.

The 2020 NBA Draft is scheduled for Nov. 18.
