DENVER -- Steph Curry revealed how he and his wife, Ayesha, decided on the name Canon for their son, born on July 2, 2018.
Steph explained Canon was a name they heard and liked when Ayesha was pregnant with the couple’s first child. When they learned that child would be a girl, they decided on the name Riley. Another girl, Ryan, followed.
When they learned their third child would be a boy, Canon came back to their minds. The Warriors star also debated naming his son Wardell Stephen Curry III to continue the family tradition, while nicknaming him Trey.

“We thought about that,” Steph said, “but Ayesha has four or five people in her family who are named Trey. I wanted to have something special.”
He continued: “Canon just stuck. I passed down his grandfather’s name through his middle name to keep the family ties there.”
Canon’s full name is Canon Wardell Jack Curry.
Steph and Ayesha did some research behind the name. Steph discovered Canon means “officiant of the church” and “young wolf.”

“I like the ingredients of that,” Steph said. “A lot of research. It’s not a dramatic story, but we like the name and the meanings behind it.”
