Steph didn't spend much time planning wild new tunnel shot

Many thought Steph Curry’s tunnel shot was no more when the Warriors left Oracle Arena. But he managed to find a new way to attempt the shot Saturday at Chase Center, and he nailed it.

The latest iteration of Steph Curry's "tunnel shot" was improvised.

Curry ended his pre-game routine Saturday ahead of the Warriors' preseason opener against the Denver Nuggets with a shot that literally -- if not figuratively -- topped the one he made famous at Oracle Arena. From an elevated tunnel positioned at a difficult angle behind the basket, Curry drained a shot from long distance.

The two-time NBA MVP told reporters on a video conference call after Golden State's 107-105 win over Denver that he didn't spend much time planning it. Curry's tunnel shot was more "Curb Your Enthusiasm" than "Seinfeld," at least on this night.

"Not very long," Curry said. "That sort of stuff just comes to you. It was good adrenaline, good mojo."

Excluding his warm-up whimsy, Curry finished Saturday with 10 points (3-of-10 from the field, 2-of-7 on 3-pointers), three assists, three turnovers and two steals. It was his first game since March 5, and only his second since breaking his left hand on Oct. 30 of last year. Curry's stroke will return with more reps as he shakes off the rust.

But comfort on the court apparently won't extend to increasingly ridiculous shots before games.

"That's going to be a tough act to follow, though, so don't get your hopes up," Curry quipped.
