There have been segments of Draymond Green's career in which he has undoubtedly been one of the top 15 players in the NBA. There also have been others, like last season, when he was nowhere close to that level.
So, entering the upcoming 2020-21 season, where does Green rank among his NBA peers? You're bound to get a wide range of answers to that question, but ESPN still has Green ranked firmly within the top 50.
ESPN continued to reveal its player rankings for the 2020-21 season Wednesday, and Green came in at No. 44.

"The question hovering over Green is just how driven he will be during another potentially trying year for a Warriors team that lost Klay Thompson," ESPN's Nick Friedell wrote. "Green was a steady presence for a young Warriors group early last year after they lost Stephen Curry, but his play fluctuated during a lost season. It will be up to Green to set the tone emotionally for Golden State."
Green, now 30 years old, was ESPN's 38th ranked player entering last season, so he has dropped a handful of spots. And really, that's fair, considering how he played. In fact, the expert panel probably could have been harsher.

What is certain, however, is that the Warriors will have no chance of winning the championship this season if Green is only the 44th-best player in the league. That's obviously still a very good player, but if Golden State is going to overcome Thompson's absence and return to true contending status, Green likely will have to be much better than that.
