Haliburton's reported muscle gain vital for larger Kings role

In the fourth quarter of the Kings-Mavericks summer league game, Chimezie Metu took exception to a hard foul by Eugene Omoruyi. Metu was ejected from the game for throwing a forearm at Omoruyi.

Legendary NBA broadcaster Mark Jones does a little of everything. He calls national TV games for ESPN as one of the network's primary play-by-play men. He also works for the Kings in the same capacity, announcing the action that you see on NBC Sports California.

A basketball junkie, Jones seems to run into players all over the country, which allows him to pick up some interesting tidbits that he shares on the broadcast.

After running into Kings point guard De'Aaron Fox during the offseason, Jones sent out a tweet announcing that the speedster had gained nine pounds of muscle.

During the Kings' 86-70 win over the Dallas Mavericks in Summer League action on Sunday, Jones spoke about another Kings guard in Tyrese Haliburton. Jones said that Haliburton has hired a personal chef as part of his offseason program and he too has stacked on close to 10 pounds of muscle.

Like Fox, Haliburton came into the league rail thin. Listed at 6-foot-5 and a generous 185 pounds last season, Haliburton held his own, but he'll need to get stronger as his role increases with the Kings.

Haliburton has been a fixture on the sidelines both at the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League. After an abbreviated offseason building up to his rookie campaign, it appears he's doing all the right things in his first true offseason.
