Kings locked into No. 3 seed, await first-round opponent

The Kings officially secured the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference after the Memphis Grizzlies beat the short-handed Milwaukee Bucks 137-114 on Friday night.

Sacramento entered the night with a chance to get the No. 2 seed, but they needed to win their final two games against the Warriors and Denver Nuggets in addition to the Grizzlies losing their two remaining games.

But the Grizzlies' win locks Memphis into the No. 2 seed and the Kings into the No. 3 seed. The Nuggets are the West's top seed, while the Phoenix Suns are the No. 4 seed.

After clinching their first playoff berth in 16 seasons and securing the Pacific Division crown, Sacramento now knows exactly where they will finish the 2022-23 regular season.

Who they will play in the first round of the NBA playoffs, however, is far from decided.

Entering Friday, five teams -- the Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans and Minnesota Timberwolves -- were still alive to finish as the No. 6 seed in the West based on how results played out over the weekend.

After finishing the regular season against the Nuggets in Denver on Sunday, the Kings will have at least five days off to prepare for their first-round NBA playoff series, which will begin in Sacramento either Saturday, April 15 or Sunday, April 16.
