Former 49ers coach Mike Singletary promises he will be coaching this season, and it looks as if he might be returning to the NFC West.
In an interview Tuesday on 670 The Score (Chicago) to discuss the passing of Buddy Ryan, Singletary suggested he expects to have a coaching role with the Los Angeles Rams under coach Jeff Fisher.

“I will be coaching this year,” Singletary said. “I may be coaching with the Rams.”
The Rams confirmed to CSNBayArea.com that Fisher has spoken to Singletary about helping the defense, but Singletary has yet to be hired for a specific role.
Singletary, 57, the former Chicago Bears linebacker who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998, broke into the NFL in 1981 with Fisher. They were teammates for four seasons.
Singletary played the final seven seasons of his career under linebackers coach Dave McGinnis, currently the Rams’ assistant head coach.

Singletary was 18-22 as head coach of the 49ers. He took over as interim coach in 2008 after the firing of Mike Nolan. He was fired with one game remaining in the 2010 season.
He spent the next three seasons assistant head coach/linebackers with the Minnesota Vikings under head coach Leslie Frazier, a former teammate with the Bears.
Back in January, Singletary let it be known that he wants another shot.
"I’ve been studying my tail off since I left San Francisco to become a coordinator at the very least, and hopefully become a head coach," he said. "When that didn’t happen, I began to work that much more, visiting coaches and learning everything I could possibly learn, primarily on offense...
“For me, I’m coaching because I really want to change lives, I want to make a difference, I want to make the game better. That’s the thing that I have been busting my tail on in the past year and a half, doing everything I want to do.”
