Columnist Tim Kawakami reported the following on his Twitter account shortly after 10 a.m. Monday:
"Breaking news from a high-ranking NFL source: The 49ers and Raiders will discontinue their exhibition season annual game."
Comcast SportsNet Bay Area contacted both organizations for comment and received responses from 49ers president and CEO Jed York and Raiders CEO Amy Trask.
York responded to a text from 49ers Insider Matt Maiocco about the cancellation of the game with the following message: "Havent heard that."
Trask had the following comment, via email: "I was asked whether the teams would continue the series. I explained that we have a tremendous working relationship with the Forty Niners and that we regularly discuss business matters in a collaborative, congenial manner and that if the two organizations believe that we should discuss this, we will do so, collaboratively, and congenially. There is a link to my interview on the station's website (KNBR-680). I do not know anything about the "high ranking source" to whom you've referred, below. My comments were on the record, on the radio, and available. No secret there."
