49ers rookie Lenoir plays all 90 defensive snaps in opener

DETROIT -- Rookie cornerback Deommodore Lenoir logged more than a full day of work in his NFL regular-season debut.

Lenoir was the only 49ers defender who played every snap -- 90, in all -- in the 49ers' season-opening 41-33 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Ford Field. He also played four snaps on special teams.

Lenoir had an impressive Week 1 showing, as Lions quarterback Jared Goff rarely even threw his way. Goff completed 38 of 57 pass attempts for 338 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

But he tested Lenoir just three times, completing one pass for just 3 yards, according to Pro Football Focus.

The 49ers did not have the services of starting cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, who was inactive due to a knee injury. Lenoir stepped into the starting lineup at left cornerback after an impressive training camp and preseason.

Now, the fifth-round draft pick from Oregon figures to be there a while after the likely season-ending injury to veteran cornerback Jason Verrett. The preliminary diagnosis on Verrett led the team's medical staff to believe Verrett sustained a torn ACL in his right knee in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game.

The 49ers had nine defensive linemen active for the game, and all nine played a lot. Arik Armstead and Nick Bosa led the way with 60 and 51 snaps, respectively. Dee Ford was on the field for 30 snaps.

The 49ers played all five of their active wide receivers. Deebo Samuel played 46 snaps of the team's 55 offensive plays. He had a career-high 189 yards receiving on nine receptions.

Trent Sherfield played 27 snaps, while Brandon Aiyuk was on the field for 26 plays. Sherfield caught two passes for 23 yards and a touchdown, while Aiyuk was not targeted with any passes on the day.

Jimmy Garoppolo played 51 snaps, while Trey Lance mixed into the action with four plays. He attempted one pass, which went for a 5-yard touchdown to Sherfield, and he ran three times for 2 yards.
