NBC Universal, Inc. San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy speaks with reporters after the 49ers’ 42-19 win over the Eagles in Philadelphia.

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy earned a prestigious place in NFL history, alongside three of the best players ever to play the sport, in his triumphant return to Philadelphia.

Purdy shined on the national stage, throwing four touchdown passes and recording a 148.8 passer rating in the 49ers' 42-19 win over the Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.

That marked the third time during the 2023 NFL season that Purdy has thrown for at least three TDs with a passer rating of 140 or more, tying Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers for the most such games in a single season in league history. It also was Purdy's fifth career game with a passer rating of 140 or higher, setting an NFL record for the most such games by a player in their first two seasons.

Purdy's 70.4 percent completion percentage (19 of 27) also marked his sixth consecutive game at 70 percent-plus, the longest such streak by a 49ers quarterback since Joe Montana did it in eight consecutive games during the 1989 season, per the Elias Sports Bureau.

Purdy posted his second four-TD-pass game of the season, after also throwing for four during the Week 5 rout of the Dallas Cowboys. It's the first time a 49ers quarterback had posted multiple games with four TD passes in a season since Jimmy Garoppolo recorded three such games in 2019.

Since the 49ers' bye week in early November, Purdy has thrown 11 TD passes and one interception and completed 74 percent of his attempts, good for a 138.4 rating. That hot run made Purdy the NFL MVP front-runner entering the final stretch of the season, and deservedly so, with the 49ers 9-3 and rolling toward the playoffs.
