SAN JOSEThe Sharks have issued an official statement regarding Wednesdays alleged attack of 16-year-old Maggie Herger, who was hurt during the Sharks-Canucks game at HP Pavilion while rooting for Vancouver.

According to a report in the San Jose Mercury News, Herger, who battled a benign brain tumor four years ago, was diagnosed with a concussion after getting hit in the head by another fan at the game.

The statement reads:

"During the second period of last night's SharksCanucks game, the HP Pavilion ushering staff was alerted to a fan who was in need of medical assistance. The ushering staff responded and proceeded to escort the fan to First Aid, where they were evaluated by medical staff. Acting on a complaint by the injured fan that she had been hit in the head by a person sitting nearby, the ushering staff, along with San Jose Police, returned to the location of the incident. Arena staff, along with San Jose Police, interviewed the person who made contact with the injured fan, who stated that the contact was accidental during the celebration of a Sharks goal. Upon being interviewed, others seated in the area of the incident did not report seeing the contact between the parties involved."
